as i am of her. 6-year-old emilie parker's family posted pictures as well. some of them very some der others with her young sibling are full of smilesment after the meetings in the classroom the president told new town that the nation's heart was broken for their loss. >> as a community you have inspired us, newtown. in the face of indescribable center lines, in the face of unconscionable evil, you looked out for each other. you cared for one another. you have loved one an is how ne remembered. >> earlier yesterday authorities told us that hundreds of rounds were fired here on friday.

the president said it is now time to better protect the children who cannot protect themselves. >> can we honestly say we are doing enough to keep our children all of them safe from harm. we claim as a nation that we are all together there, letting them know we are loved and teach to go love in return. are we truly doing enough to give all the children of this country a chance they deserve to live out their lives in happiness and with purpose. i have been reflecting on this the last few days. if we are honest with ourselves, the answer is no.

i was at a bar that was frequented by the suspect's mother nancy lanza. there were many people at the hangout for folks in the town to go in newtown. not one person said one thing the entire time. it was completely silent. people hung on every word of every prayer and every word of the president's reparks. afterwards i asked the man who was very emotional what he thought about the speech and he said he thought it was great. he just hopes the president follows through on that call to action, whatever that action ends up being. >> that is the question, what answer. peter doocy live in washington. >> lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are vowing to take steps to try to keep that type of tragedy from happening again. kelly wright is live with more. law americas as well as the

want to maintain the kid's innocence. they don't need to be he can posed to violent video games. part of the problem parents become desensitized. well, johnny has this game, sara has this game. suddenly it is not too big of a problem. >> you hear desensitized. people watch enough violence and all of a sudden they become numb to the thought of it. >> whatever you are pumping into your subconscious mind becomes a reality. if you are doing stuff or engaged in an activity over and over again your brain will create neuropathways consistent with that. you could become completely desensitized to violent video games and almost become a killer. think of all of these things that have been happening over the last several years. there has to be a connection there. >> people would say there's plenty of people who watch the

good morning everyone. we are standing in treadwell park. this is where police have been giving us daily briefings. we are expecting to hear from state police again a little later on this morning at 9:00. still police say they are weeks away from determining what led this shooter to go on this rampage. police confirm the shooter's name adam lanza. he shot his mother nancy in newtown on friday then drove to sandy hook elementary school and forced his way into the school. he was carrying three weapons with him all of them legally registered to his mother. police say he did the bulk of his shooting with a bushmaster ar 15 assault weapons. it inflicts maximum damage it is used in the military. police say he shot all of his victims multiple times then he took his own life with one of the two hand guns he carries. all weapons had multiple magazines and additional

ammunition. the fourth weaponry covered was a shot gun that was recovered from the suspect's vehicle as it was parked outside of the school. >> perhaps the most terrifying part of the story is the fact that there were hundreds of bullets as well as unspent magazines found near his body inside the school leading authorities to belief had police not arrived when they did the shooting as horrible as it was could have been even worse. that is the latest live from newtown, connecticut this morning. patti ann, back to you. thank you. >> it's a tremendous challenge for school officials, because school campuses are not designed to be fortresses to be defended. they are places of learning. if you have a armed person tint on getting on to the campus they will use whatever means necessary. this is not an uncommon

situation where they defeat some of the best systems that are in place. that was ronald stevens the director of the national school safety center outlining some of the challenges that schools face keeping children safe. this as we learn that sandy hook element tre school installed new security measures that can protect and defend against such a horrific act of violence. can you, that is the question parents are asking. steven rogers joins us now. thank you for joining us. >> you are welcome. >> schools are not fortresses to be defended. here's not what they are supposed to be. this school hasandy hook have taken all of the precautions they needed to. >> nothing could stop him from going into the goibuilding and doing what he did. after goat in the heroics of the teachers the police all of those people who survived protecting

those children. you could have had metal detectors. that guy was hell bent on getting in that building to do what he did. >> schools across the country have upped security measures. take a look at some of the numbers. 92 percent of schools lock or monitor doors. 63 hers use electronic emergency notification so they can let families know if there is something going on. the teachers locking the doors moving them back hiding them in cub boards and bathrooms. >> i looked at the lock down policy it works. the teachers in particular take full control of the situation high hiding children by going to the back of the classrooms. you can't do enough to protect from a crazed person. 99 percent of the school

districts across the nation are well protected when it comes to locking doors. i am an elected official in my community. when i go i am escorted i have to sign in. these are procedures that help prevent a noncrazed person from going in anding committing the vie lengths. >> what should parents be asking at schools in terms of security? >> what can we do to help what can we do to make suggestions. some parents called me over the weekend. i said look, hug your children, pray for your children be close to them. on fox you are doing great work in heightening awareness of what needs to be done to stop the problem. i have heard it through out the entire weekend, love your families, get together with your families and talk. i am in law enforcement i am not a psychiatrist. the 38 years i have been in law enforce. the connection to violent games
